You Should Be More Like…Bernie Mac
Aug 11th, 2008 | By admin | Category: Features
I don’t want to get in the habit of basing the “You Should Be More Like” features on recently passed comedians (the first YSBMl featured George Carlin), but ol’ Bernie is too good of a man to pass up!
Bernard Jeffrie McCullough, or as you probably know him, Bernie Mac, worked his way from an impoverished neighborhood in south-side Chicago to become a highly successful actor and comedian. He was one of the Original Kings of Comedy, star of The Bernie Mac Show and had parts in the blockbuster films The Transformers and Ocean’s Eleven amongst other starring roles in films.
But, beyond all the movies and stand-up routines Bernie became famous for, he is mostly remembered by friends and family for being a devoted family man. Bernie married Rhonda McCullough in 1977 and they have been married ever since, something that is quite a feat for people of fame and was a wonderful dad to his only daughter.
Unfortunately, Bernie passed away on August 9th from complications from pneumonia. His legacy will live on and he will always be remembered for his family values and comedic genius, which is why I think the world would be a better place if everyone would just be a little more like Bernie Mac.
